Musée de la Distillerie de Barrême
Once an old distillery of plants for perfumes, the Distillery de Barrême was built in 1905 by the German company Schimmel, specializing in the production and sales of aromatic plants. Its location, dimensions and ingenuity reflect the desire of this internationally based firm to ensure a supply of very high quality essential oils of lavender.
In 2015 the opening of the museum gave new life to the site. Be it in the heart of the machinery or in the open air of the garden your senses will be captivated by the fragrance of the aromatic plants, by the history of the lavender, of the local distilleries and that of the Schimmel Company. Individually or in groups, take part in the animations to be found within or without the museum. Cookery workshops, activities with plants, scents and flavours, guided visits and outings are proposed throughout the summer. Enjoy a visit to the museum shop dedicated to lavender and other plants used for perfumes.
